FAQ's

Peak Cycling Club (PCC) is a friendly, mixed cycling club based in the Sheffield and Chesterfield area, riding predominantly in and around the Peak District. We welcome riders of all backgrounds.

How do I join?

You can join via our website. Membership is £10 per year and renews automatically — you can cancel at any time through your website login.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes, you must be 18 or over to join.

Can I try a ride before joining?

Absolutely. You’re welcome to come along as a guest before committing to membership. Just get in touch with us in advance so we know to expect you. You’re also welcome to bring a friend along.

What rides do you offer?

We run three types of riding activity:

  • Sunday Social Ride — Our flagship weekly ride. This is a no-drop ride, meaning nobody gets left behind. It meets every Sunday at 9am at The Moorland. Routes are generally in the Peak District.
  • Saturday Rides — Regular rides at varying pace and ability levels. Expected pace and route details are published in advance so you can pick what suits you.
  • Ad-hoc Midweek Rides — Any member can organise an informal midweek ride and post it on WhatsApp. These are not official club rides but are a great way to get extra miles in.

Where do official rides appear?

All official club rides are published in advance on our Strava club page, which members have access to after joining. Unofficial ad-hoc rides are posted on our ‘Rides’ WhatsApp group.

Where do you meet and is there parking?

The Sunday Social meets at The Moorland every Sunday at 9am. There is parking available there. Saturday rides meet at various locations — details are published with each ride.

Do you publish route details in advance?

Yes. All official rides are posted on Strava before the event, including route, distance, and expected pace. You don’t need to sign up — just turn up. Ad-hoc rides are shared informally via WhatsApp.

Do you come to my area / do rides pass through a specific place?

Our routes vary week to week across the Peak District and surrounding areas. Check our Strava club page for upcoming routes, or get in touch if you have questions about a specific area.

I’m a complete beginner — is that okay?

Beginners are very welcome but you must have a reasonable level of fitness. The Sunday Social is a no-drop ride, which means the group rides together and waits for anyone who falls behind. It’s a great way to build confidence in a supportive environment. But the rides are in the Peak District so expect hills and be confident enough in your fitness level to be able to complete the ride.

I’ve had a long time off the bike — will I cope?

Many of our members have come back to cycling after illness, injury, or life getting in the way. The Sunday Social is the ideal ride to ease yourself back in at a comfortable pace.

I’m a reasonably fit or experienced cyclist — will I be challenged?

Yes. Our Saturday rides vary in pace and difficulty, and ride details including expected pace are published in advance. There’s plenty to suit stronger riders.

What age range are members?

We have a broad mix of ages. The minimum membership age is 18 and we have members across a wide range of ages and life stages — you won’t be out of place.

I only have a mountain bike — can I still join?

We are primarily a road and gravel cycling club, but we do include gravel riding in our Saturday programme. We also have mountain bikers in the group who organise their own informal off-road rides via WhatsApp. If off-road riding is your main interest, get in touch to find out what’s currently on.

Do you do gravel rides?

Yes — gravel rides feature regularly on Saturdays.

Do I need to buy club kit?

No, club kit is not compulsory. We release kit for sale periodically (generally once a year) and members are free to purchase it or not. There is no requirement to wear club colours.

Is PCC a mixed club?

Yes, PCC is a fully mixed club. We have a women’s-only WhatsApp group and a dedicated women’s community rep within the club — so there’s a point of contact and a space specifically for women members if that’s helpful.

I don’t live locally but will be visiting the area – can I join a ride?

Yes, visiting riders are welcome. Just get in touch with us in advance to let us know you’re coming and we’ll make sure you’re expected.

Once you’ve joined, you’ll get access to:

  • Our Strava club page — where all official rides are posted
  • Our WhatsApp groups — for informal rides, chat, and community

If you have any questions not covered here, feel free to reach out – we’re a friendly bunch and are always happy to hear from prospective new members.
